A’ja Wilson: Dominating the WNBA with Skill and Charisma

Las Vegas Aces center A’ja Wilson stands out as both the face and voice of the WNBA. Renowned for producing memorable quotes and excelling on the court, Wilson was named an All-Star for the eighth time.

Before the 2026 WNBA All-Star Game in Chicago, Wilson appeared on ESPN, sharing her main motivation: her haters. “My haters!” Wilson said with a laugh. “I love proving people wrong. I enjoy being my true self and seeing the reactions it provokes. That’s what I truly love doing.”

While accumulating rings, banners, and trophies brings recognition, Wilson emphasizes the joy of being authentic. She adds, “Loving in that space and being authentic is always fun. The next generation is another key motivator.”

In a pregame press conference, Wilson discussed her relationship with WNBA commissioner Cathy Engelbert, saying, “My only relationship with Cathy is when she hands me awards, which is great. I love to see her in that light.”

The Aces chose Wilson with the top pick in the 2018 WNBA Draft from South Carolina. Since then, she’s achieved milestones including four-time WNBA MVP, eight-time All-Star, six-time All-WNBA selection, three-time Defensive Player of the Year, two-time scoring champion, and three-time WNBA champion.

In a historic season, Wilson became the first player to earn Defensive Player of the Year, WNBA MVP, WNBA Finals MVP, and a title in one season. The Wilson era has seen the Aces secure three league championships.

Recently, Wilson became the fastest player in league history to reach 6,000 career points. This season, she averages 26.1 points, 9.5 rebounds, 3.0 assists, 2.0 blocks, and 1.6 steals per game. She tops the league in scoring and blocks. The Aces hold an 18-8 record, placing third in the league standings, and are set to continue their defense against the Portland Fire on Tuesday, July 28.
