Former President Joe Biden’s Interview Recordings Released

The prolonged legal dispute regarding the release of former President Joe Biden’s interview recordings has concluded. These recordings, from discussions with his memoir ghostwriter, were acquired during special counsel Robert Hur’s investigation. On Monday, Biden’s legal team decided to end their efforts to prevent the release of these materials.

Last week, Biden’s attorneys submitted a motion to withdraw their objections to releasing the audio and transcripts. They based their decision on Biden’s current status as a private citizen not pursuing public office. U.S. District Court Judge Tanya Chutkan accepted this voluntary dismissal.

The Department of Justice now has the authority to provide these recordings and transcripts to the House Judiciary Committee. The recordings pertain to discussions Biden had with Mark Zwonitzer, his ghostwriter, in 2016 and 2017. Hur’s team created transcripts of these discussions as they investigated Biden’s document-handling practices.

Joe Biden was examined for his management of classified documents from his terms as vice president and a U.S. senator. Special counsel Hur decided not to file criminal charges. He cited the inability to prove beyond reasonable doubt that Biden intentionally kept or shared classified materials.

Hur noted that a jury might see Biden as a “sympathetic, well-meaning, elderly man with a poor memory,” which would impact the prosecution’s case.

The Heritage Foundation, a conservative think tank, fought for over two years to gain access to these materials through FOIA requests. The Foundation argued the public’s right to review the basis of Hur’s decision.

Previously, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit ruled in favor of the Foundation. They determined that the public’s interest in the redacted materials outweighed any remaining privacy concerns.

In February, the Justice Department changed its stance, agreeing to release redacted versions of the recordings and transcripts to both the plaintiffs and the House Judiciary Committee. As of the time of publication, neither Biden’s attorneys nor the Heritage Foundation provided comments to Fox News Digital.
