Understanding Terrorism: International and Domestic

Terrorist attacks can occur both internationally and domestically. International terrorism refers to violent acts committed by individuals or groups who are linked to designated foreign terrorist organizations or state sponsors. Domestic terrorism involves violent acts by individuals or groups motivated by ideological goals within their own country. These influences can be political, religious, social, racial, or environmental in nature.

A significant terrorist attack on American soil occurred on September 11, 2001. On this day, the Twin Towers in New York City collapsed after being struck by hijacked commercial airplanes. Another plane hit the Pentagon, while a fourth crashed in Pennsylvania. This attack was orchestrated by Al-Qaeda, led by Osama bin Laden.

In May 2011, U.S. Navy SEALs killed Osama bin Laden, under the leadership of President Barack Obama. This marked a pivotal moment in the fight against terrorism.
