Ripa underwent a gum graft surgery, a procedure usually performed to address thinning or receding gums, as explained by the Cleveland Clinic. Consuelos mentioned that it had been recommended by her dentist five years ago. Jokingly, Ripa had doubted at the time that she would still be on the air when the surgery became necessary.

Challenging Recovery

The recovery process has proven to be quite challenging for Ripa, primarily because it requires her to refrain from speaking. Consuelos noted this during the show, sharing that abiding by the doctor’s orders has been difficult for the chatty host. He humorously noted that enforcing the silent recovery has been a task within itself.
