WNBA Player Feud Unfolds Online Amid Allegations

Las Vegas Aces forward NaLyssa Smith addressed allegations on Twitch after her ex-girlfriend, DiJonai Carrington, accused her of cheating scandals involving multiple players. During her livestream, Smith chose not to confirm or deny the accusations but questioned the timing and public nature of Carrington’s claims, which emerged a year after their breakup.

Carrington initiated the dispute by alleging on Threads that Smith had cheated with several players, including Aces teammate Deja Kelly and Atlanta Dream guard Aaliyah Nye. Smith expressed confusion and frustration about why their past issues were being aired publicly when they were supposed to have moved on.

“Why are we bringing that to the internet a year later when nobody did anything to anybody?” Smith said. “Whether she cheated on me or I cheated on her, that has nothing to do with anybody.”

Smith criticized Carrington for involving Kelly and Nye in the controversy, stating that they were unfairly dragged into the public eye. She described the situation as bizarre, especially since the listed individuals were unaware of the allegations until the claims became public.

“These folks woke up to this on a random Sunday night of these type of allegations,” Smith said. “I think that’s very weird.”

On describing the confrontation preceding Carrington’s social media outburst, Smith recalled an argument escalating to the point where security had to intervene. She expressed feeling unjustly portrayed as the antagonist in the matter.

“The whole thing started,” Smith said. “I’m literally like ‘Who’s a b*tch?’ So, then it causes commotion and I’m just like ‘Damn now what?’ I look like the problem.”

Smith dismissed rumors that she attended an event uninvited to watch Carrington, stating she was simply minding her own business during the incident. She challenged the narrative of her being at fault, urging people to stop spreading misinformation about her.

“I’m sitting on the couch posting, minding my business,” Smith said. “I didn’t do nothing to nobody.”

Smith suggested that alcohol might have fueled Carrington’s behavior, attributing her confidence boost during the altercation to external factors.

“I guess the liquor, the cameras, her crowd, I guess she got some type of, somebody boosted her up to gain some confidence,” Smith said.

The former Baylor teammates are scheduled to face each other in a basketball game on August 1, when Carrington’s team, Chicago Sky, hosts Smith and the Las Vegas Aces.
