Florida Man Charged with Murder and Arson After Allegedly Killing Mother

A 23-year-old man in Florida, George Beemer, has been arrested under charges of second-degree murder, first-degree arson, and abuse of a dead human body. The incident involved the alleged shooting of his mother followed by setting her body on fire, according to a statement from the Lee County Sheriff’s Office.

Authorities reported that Beemer called 911 from his Fort Myers residence, citing chest pain. While he was being transported to the hospital for a medical assessment, another emergency call reported a fire at the same location. Firefighters responding to the scene found Beemer’s mother’s burned body inside, leading to immediate suspicions.

Probable Cause Established by Investigators

Detectives detailed that evidence pointed toward Beemer shooting his mother and intentionally setting the house ablaze. Sheriff Carmine Marceno credited the swift arrest to the meticulous efforts of the Major Crimes detectives and Crime Scene investigators, alongside cooperation with fire services.

“Their professionalism, attention to detail, and relentless investigative work ensured a swift arrest was made,”

Marceno stated in an official communication.

Beemer reportedly confessed to law enforcement officers that he had harbored anger towards his mother for years. He stated he lit the fire because his mother expressed she wanted to be cremated.

Claim of Long-Term Abuse Rejected by Acquaintance

Beemer claimed his mother mistreated him throughout his life, including allegations of molestation. However, a friend of the deceased refuted these claims, describing them as false.

“There’s absolutely no way,” the friend explained to WINK News. “He’s using it as a defense mechanism.”

Beemer’s former classmate, Madison Edwards, expressed shock at the news, noting that while the arrest was surprising, the nature of the allegations was even more unexpected.

The investigation is ongoing, as confirmed by Sheriff Marceno, who expressed support for the grieving family:
