Florida Launches Investigation into Dr. Fauci’s COVID-19 Role

Florida’s Lieutenant Governor Jay Collins supports the state’s Attorney General James Uthmeier’s new investigation into Dr. Anthony Fauci, a former White House COVID-19 adviser. Collins believes this matter should be resolved in court. ‘Let’s get this in the court of law,’ Collins told Newsweek on Thursday, expressing full support for Uthmeier’s initiative.

This development follows Dr. Fauci’s recent appearance before the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee. During his testimony, he invoked his Fifth Amendment right, declining to answer questions from lawmakers led by Chairman Rand Paul, a Republican from Kentucky. Dr. Fauci cited legal counsel’s advice in his opening statement.

On Wednesday, Uthmeier posted on X, expressing disbelief at Fauci’s testimony. He announced an investigation, seeking to uncover the truth about the COVID-19 pandemic. Uthmeier’s office aims to determine whether Dr. Fauci violated any state laws by misleading the public or causing harm to Floridians.

This investigation represents a new chapter in the ongoing political debate over the government’s handling of the pandemic. As the former director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, Dr. Fauci was a key figure during the crisis, often criticized by Republicans for federal COVID-19 guidelines, such as masking and mitigation measures.

Collins highlighted Florida’s unique approach to the pandemic, claiming success in economic and educational spheres. He stated, ‘We stood up during COVID when many did not, and we were correct. Our state prospered, with financial growth and new business development.’

Collins frequently referenced Dr. Fauci’s testimony and decision to invoke the Fifth Amendment as a rationale for continued scrutiny. ‘The lack of transparency is the biggest issue,’ he noted. ‘If you make a mistake, you should own it and move forward.’

He also criticized public health measures like masking and seating restrictions. An amputee and veteran, he advocated for the Veterans Affairs’ limited care access issue, opposing COVID-19 vaccination himself.

Collins argued that school closures and social restrictions had long-term repercussions on children, businesses, and mental health, with effects still under assessment.
