Elijah Bieniemy’s Court Appearance Delayed for Mental Health Evaluation

Elijah Bieniemy, son of Kansas City Chiefs offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy, will not face court until completing a mental health competency evaluation. Court records reveal his delayed appearance. Elijah, age 27, was arrested following an incident involving his mother, Mia, who was shot multiple times at their Ashburn, Virginia home.

The Loudon County Sheriff’s Office confirms his charges include malicious wounding, firearm use in a felony, and discharging a weapon in a dwelling. An official press release announced these charges.

A mental health evaluation was deemed necessary before Elijah’s preliminary court hearing. His public defender asserts that Elijah shows significant mental health issues, affecting his ability to participate in his defense.

The evaluation has been sanctioned, with a motion for further assessment temporarily withdrawn. Elijah’s hearing is scheduled for September 9, preceding the Chiefs’ matchup against the Denver Broncos.

Chiefs head coach Andy Reid provided an update on Mia, saying, “She’s doing great,” during a media briefing. He noted her improvement since leaving the ICU, emphasizing the importance of Eric Bieniemy remaining with her.

Following the arrest, Elijah was taken to Loudon County Adult Detention Center, held without bond. Chiefs’ coaching staff and the team will begin their camp at Missouri Western State’s campus, following veterans’ arrival.

Eric Bieniemy returned to the Chiefs as offensive coordinator after time with the Washington Commanders, Chicago Bears, and UCLA. He led one of the NFL’s top offenses from 2018-22. His tenure included Super Bowl victories.
