On Friday, Apple Pay users encountered service disruptions, hindering their ability to process transactions and transfer funds. According to Downdetector, a website that tracks outages, reports surged as users struggled to complete payments through Apple’s digital wallet.
Nearly 1,400 issues with Apple Pay were reported prior to 6 p.m. ET. The data indicated that the majority of complaints pertained to problems with funds transfers and payments. At this time, Apple had not officially acknowledged these issues, nor disclosed any reasons for the disruptions. Newsweek reached out to Apple for a comment via email on Friday afternoon.
Apple Pay facilitates contactless purchases and online payments using devices such as iPhone, Apple Watch, iPad, and Mac. Friday’s service interruptions are not a new occurrence. There have been previous instances where users faced challenges with Apple Pay and related Wallet services, including failed transactions, Apple Cash transfer issues, and difficulties accessing Wallet features.
Most disruptions are typically resolved quickly, yet they temporarily hinder users from completing transactions or sending funds within Apple’s payment infrastructure.
What Is the ‘Unable to Connect to Wallet Services’ Error?
Many users affected by Friday’s disruption reported encountering an ‘Unable to Connect to Wallet Services’ error message. This error usually signifies that the Wallet app cannot communicate with Apple’s backend systems. Consequently, users are unable to add cards, verify payment methods, or complete purchases.
While the root cause of Friday’s issues remains unclear, similar errors often arise during server outages or service disruptions impacting Apple Pay and related Wallet functionalities.
