Shedeur Sanders Discusses Cohesion in Browns’ Quarterback Room

The Cleveland Browns have begun their training camp, and Shedeur Sanders, one of their quarterbacks, is confident about the team’s unity. Sanders believes that internal conflicts, common in some quarterback groups, are not an issue for the Browns.

During a conversation with Bernie Kosar, a well-known former Browns player, Sanders shared his thoughts on the team’s atmosphere in his second training year. He remarked, I’m truly excited for this year that the attitude about everybody in the building, like we like the hard coaching, we like all that stuff, because we know it’s coming from a place of wanting us to be great. … Everybody’s goal is aligned here. That’s why we don’t have the petty quarterback battles internally. That’s not up to us; that’s up to whoever the coaches think, he explained.

Sanders, picked by the Browns in the fifth round of the 2025 NFL Draft, took over as starting quarterback in Week 11 last season after Dillon Gabriel, another rookie, suffered a concussion. In his seven starts, Sanders led the team to a 3-4 record, passing for 1,400 yards, seven touchdowns, and ten interceptions. His performance earned him a surprising Pro Bowl selection as a rookie.

As Sanders enters his second year, the competition for the starting quarterback position looks different. He competes with NFL veteran Deshaun Watson for the role. Coach Todd Monken hasn’t provided clear indications about who will prevail in this competition.

Gabriel remains on the roster, occupying the third spot in the depth chart and hoping to claim the starting position if the opportunity arises. Sanders emphasizes that there is no significant drama among the quarterbacks, saying, That’s where I say we’ve grown for sure the most. I’d say for sure in the quarterback room. Kosar echoed these sentiments, noting the positive camaraderie.

The Browns kick off their preseason on August 15 against the Chicago Bears at Soldier Field. Their regular season starts on Sunday, September 13, with an away game against Trevor Lawrence and the Jacksonville Jaguars.
