The MLB trade deadline has arrived, igniting excitement among fans and teams alike. Notable trades have already taken place, with teams like the White Sox actively aiming for postseason success. The Los Angeles Dodgers and the Chicago Cubs, two teams that were already expected to perform well, have made strategic moves to strengthen their rosters.

The Dodgers have acquired Tarik Skubal, a leading pitcher in the league. Skubal’s addition enhances the Dodgers’ chances of securing a third consecutive World Series title. Skubal is set to experience life as a Dodger ahead of his free agency period. While today’s starting pitching duties fall to Justin Wrobleski, Skubal’s impact on the team is anticipated

Wrobleski enters the game with impressive statistics for the season. With an 11-2 record, a 2.88 ERA, and a 1.02 WHIP over 112.2 innings, his performance has been consistently strong. Despite a challenging recent outing, Wrobleski has had success against teams like the Cubs, shutting them out over six innings earlier in the season.

The Cubs, currently a Wild Card contender, have been dealing with injury-related challenges. Despite a promising offense, their pitching depth has been a concern. Recent trades have addressed this, with the addition of Aaron Civale and former Cy Young winner Kevin Gausman, bolstering their pitching staff.

Matthew Boyd’s return to the Cubs’ rotation has been beneficial. Boyd has pitched 44 innings since returning, allowing only nine earned runs. His latest start against the Dodgers was impressive, with seven shutout innings and only four hits allowed. Boyd’s performance against Dodger hitters shows they have struggled with him, hitting just .200 in 100 at-bats.

The upcoming game promises to be competitive. Both starting pitchers are expected to limit scoring opportunities for their opponents. Although the Cubs are seen as a viable pick, the suggestion is to bet on the game’s total score staying under 8.5 runs, given both pitchers’ capabilities.
