Aaron Donald Sparks Comeback Speculation with Rams Workout

The Los Angeles Rams stirred discussions during their recent training camp when Aaron Donald’s name appeared on the NFL transaction wire. Donald, a retired Super Bowl champion, participated in a workout with the team, leading to speculation about his potential return.

Head coach Sean McVay humorously addressed the situation, telling Gregg Rosenthal, “Best tryout that we’ve ever had. I think he could make the team.” McVay explained that this was a way to engage in a workout with Donald within the existing rules. Rams run game coordinator and defensive line coach Giff Smith echoed the sentiment, praising the workout.

“That was honestly our way of being able to get a workout with him within the parameters of what’s necessary,” McVay said. “Giff Smith said it’s the best tryout he’s ever had.”

Currently 35, Donald is considering a possible return for an 11th season after playing his last season in 2023. He boasts an impressive record, with 154 regular-season games under his belt, comprising 543 tackles, 111 sacks, 21 passes defended, and 24 forced fumbles. Rejoining the Rams would place him alongside formidable defenders, including Myles Garrett, the NFL Defensive Player of the Year, and cornerback Trent McDuffie from the Kansas City Chiefs.

Donald, who retired in 2024, had previously expressed contentment with his accomplishments and a loss of desire for training. Yet, the Rams’ impressive roster might have reignited his passion for the game. The team also features a strong offense, led by NFL MVP quarterback Matthew Stafford, and star receivers Puka Nacua and Davante Adams.

Given their powerful lineup, the Rams are considered favorites for the 2027 Super Bowl, and Donald’s return would strengthen their position as top contenders.
