A tragic incident unfolded outside Bangkok at Debsirin Nonthaburi School in Nonthaburi province, leading to the deaths of six individuals. A student opened fire, resulting in the deaths of three teachers and three students, while several others sustained injuries, according to Royal Thai Police spokesperson Trairong Piwpan.
The shooting occurred on a Friday, and the police have been actively investigating the situation. The shooter, who was a student at the school, is reported to have died, although reports vary on whether this was due to police action or suicide, as reported by the French news agency AFP.
Authorities discovered a man and woman dead at the shooter’s residence, and the investigation into the motive continues. Initial details suggest that the weapon was obtained from a family member.
Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul expressed his condolences and directed officials to provide support to the victims. Images from the scene revealed a somber environment, with people consoling each other outside the school, while police and first responders conducted their duties inside.
A witness recounted that students sought refuge in a classroom, hearing gunshots from an adjacent building, until police safely escorted them out.
This incident follows previous shootings in Thailand. In February, a 17-year-old opened fire at a public high school in southern Thailand, causing casualties and hostage situations. In 2023, a 14-year-old was involved in a shooting at a Bangkok shopping mall.
