Morgan Fairchild attributes her survival in a dangerous situation to her sense of humor. The actress, known for her roles in “Flamingo Road” and “Falcon Crest,” now co-hosts a podcast called “2 B—-es From Texas” with her sister Cathryn Hartt. They share untold stories from their careers and interview celebrity friends.
In a recent podcast episode, Fairchild recounted being abducted on a New York City street before her fame. Although it was a terrifying incident, she claimed humor helped her gain freedom.
“I was walking in daylight; there was no reason to be afraid,” Fairchild recalled. Suddenly, two large men approached her, lifted her by the elbows, and threw her into a cab. Despite screaming for help, bystanders did not intervene.
Inside the cab, separated by thick plexiglass, the men revealed their intentions. One was a pimp, the other a drug pusher. Fairchild maintained her composure, responding with jokes to their threats.
At one point, the men found her humor amusing and decided to release her. They instructed the driver to take Fairchild wherever she wanted, allowing her to return safely to her sister’s home. Describing the experience as frightening, she stayed indoors for three days afterward.
“I had to talk my way out by being funny,” Fairchild explained. “It was like an improv class, but much more dangerous.”
Fairchild shared this story to highlight the importance of awareness and vigilance, especially for women. The incident taught her to always be conscious of her surroundings, advice she emphasizes to her listeners.
Fairchild stresses that people should stay alert, especially when using phones in public. “Never walk and text,” she advises, as it can make individuals oblivious to their surroundings.
The podcast not only revisits past experiences but also aims to foster kindness among listeners. Fairchild frequently ends her social media posts encouraging kindness, believing it is a crucial aspect missing in society.
