From a young age, Jones displayed an exceptional talent for the game. At just 14 years old, he reached the third round of the U.S. Amateur, highlighting his early potential. Throughout his career, Jones amassed 13 major championships, all as an amateur, a record that remains unmatched.
Honoring Matt McQuillan’s Golf Legacy
Former PGA Tour player Matt McQuillan passed away at 45 on August 5, as reported by his obituary in the Kingston Whig-Standard newspaper. The Canadian golfer from Kingston, Ontario, was surrounded by his family at the time of his passing.
McQuillan began his collegiate golf career on a scholarship at Oklahoma State in 2000. He later transferred to the University of Georgia, enhancing his skills and knowledge. Turning professional in 2003, McQuillan participated in 32 PGA Tour events, making the cut in nine tournaments. His best performance was a tie for third place at the 2011 John Deere Classic, highlighted by an impressive final round score of 64. His final appearance in a PGA Tour-sanctioned event was in September 2016 on the PGA Tour Canada circuit.
In remembrance, McQuillan continued fostering the game as a teaching professional in his hometown. He introduced many players across Canada to golf, influencing a new generation.
