The Dodgers’ history supports this view. They’ve let past midseason players like Yu Darvish and Manny Machado explore free agency. Outside Tommy Edman, they haven’t retained midseason trade additions.
Skubal’s agent, Scott Boras, is known for navigating the open market, which could lead him to another team. Meanwhile, after trading Skubal, the Tigers are experiencing a resurgence. With key wins and competitive standings, they’re close to a playoff spot.
If the Tigers make a playoff push and reacquire Skubal, criticism of the Dodgers for “ruining baseball” might persist. Skubal is aware of the situation, potentially serving as a rental for the Dodgers’ championship aspirations.
