Arch Manning’s Outlook for the 2026 SEC Season

Arch Manning may present a significant challenge for the SEC this fall. The Texas quarterback entered the 2025 season as one of the most highly anticipated prospects in college football in recent years, drawing comparisons to talents like Trevor Lawrence. Manning’s first game against Ohio State last season was challenging. He recorded 170 passing yards with one touchdown and one interception in a narrow 14-7 loss to the Buckeyes.

However, Manning’s performance improved significantly in late October. He threw for 346 yards, three touchdowns, and one interception in a thrilling 45-38 overtime victory against Mississippi State on October 25. His impressive play continued into November and during Texas’ 41-27 victory over Michigan in the Citrus Bowl. This has led some in the NFL to speculate that he or Oregon’s Dante Moore may potentially be the top quarterback selected in the 2027 NFL Draft.

SEC coaches are already expressing concerns about Manning’s potential this season. One SEC defensive coordinator shared with ESPN’s Adam Rittenberg their hope that Manning might have an “off game” when their teams meet. Another SEC defensive coordinator mentioned that Manning has a better setup for success this year, highlighted by Texas acquiring wide receiver Cam Coleman through the transfer portal.

He can absolutely rip it, like velocity, accuracy. He got a little bit out of whack and made some mistakes, and then people were really defending him. It’s going to be really easy this year, because people are gonna have to double Cam Coleman. He’s a real one, and so is (Ryan) Wingo, so it’s like, you can’t double both of them.

Last season, Manning ended with 3,163 passing yards, 26 touchdowns, and seven interceptions. He also added 399 rushing yards and 10 touchdowns on the ground. Besides Coleman, Texas has strengthened its roster by securing running back Hollywood Smothers in the transfer portal and enhancing their offensive line, which struggled last year.
