Tlaib Criticized by Florida Republican over Rally for Socialist Candidates

Rep. Rashida Tlaib, a Democrat from Michigan, faces criticism from Florida’s only Jewish Republican in Congress. Tlaib plans to attend a rally in Fort Lauderdale supporting candidates running to unseat two Democratic House members.

A rally flyer shared on Instagram shows Tlaib supporting three candidates, including two socialists campaigning against Reps. Jared Moskowitz and Debbie Wasserman Schultz, both Democrats from Florida.

“I don’t think it’s a coincidence she’s targeting two of the remaining Jewish Democrats,” said Rep. Randy Fine, a Republican from Florida, to Fox News Digital.

Tlaib, the first Palestinian American woman in Congress, has become influential on the far-left this election cycle. Democratic Socialists of America (DSA) candidates continue to challenge establishment Democrats in significant races nationwide.

DSA candidates face accusations of antisemitism due to criticism of Israel and association with groups like Hamas. Tlaib also dealt with bipartisan criticism for her comments on Jews and Israel, though she denies claims of antisemitism.

Rep. Fine described Tlaib as a “vocal supporter of Hamas.” He believes the far-left poses a danger, making American Jews feel insecure. Fine expressed that Florida Democrats may react negatively to Tlaib’s presence.

Tlaib recently campaigned with Abdul El-Sayed, a socialist politician who won against the establishment-backed Rep. Haley Stevens for a Senate nomination in Michigan. This leftward shift within the Democratic Party has intensified discussions.

The rally, titled “Chomp the Oligarchy,” is hosted by progressive organizations like Gen Z For Change and the Florida Youth Justice Coalition. Neither Moskowitz’s nor Wasserman Schultz’s campaigns provided comments on Tlaib’s participation.

Tlaib and some Democrats have previously accused Rep. Fine of holding anti-Muslim views. Moskowitz is running in the 25th Congressional District, while Wasserman Schultz seeks election in the 20th Congressional District, both recently redrawn.
