White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt will step down at the end of the month after her recent return from maternity leave. She is one of the key figures in the ‘Make America Great Again’ movement. President Trump announced her departure on Wednesday.
Leavitt, who resumed her duties after giving birth to her second child in May, has been recognized as the youngest person to hold the press secretary role at 28. In a social media post, Trump praised Leavitt as one of his ‘most trusted aides.’ He expressed understanding and respect for her decision to prioritize family time with her two young children, stating, ‘Karoline will now be one of my top outside advisers and an influential voice within the Republican Party as we work to defy History and conclusively win the Midterm Elections.’
Together with her recent newborn daughter, Leavitt has a 2-year-old son. Her departure signifies a personal decision to better balance family commitments with professional responsibilities. In her online statement, Leavitt explained, ‘Since returning to the White House after the birth of my daughter, I have realized I cannot be the best mom my two young children deserve while fulfilling the time, energy, and attention required as the White House Press Secretary.’
There has been no announcement yet regarding her successor in the high-profile role.
