Vikings Select Kyler Murray as Starting Quarterback

The Minnesota Vikings have made a decision to name Kyler Murray as their starting quarterback, surpassing J.J. McCarthy. This information comes from an anonymous source familiar with the matter, as the team has yet to officially announce the decision. Coach Kevin O’Connell had promised a genuine competition between Murray, a newcomer, and McCarthy, the current starter.

Murray, formerly with the Arizona Cardinals for seven seasons, took most of the first-team snaps during training. However, McCarthy also had ample opportunities during open practices. With Murray adapting to a new system, the team preferred an early decision to allow him more time to lead the offense in training camp.

J.J. McCarthy, a product of Nazareth and Michigan, was the tenth overall pick in the 2024 draft. In his rookie season, he faced challenges, starting only ten games due to various injuries. For added veteran support, the Vikings have also re-signed Carson Wentz.
