IDF Reveals Seized Weapons Used by Hezbollah and Hamas
In a rare opportunity, Fox News Digital accessed the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) Tzrifin Base in Central Israel. Inside, extensive collections of confiscated weapons lie stored, including rockets, grenades, drones, sniper rifles, automated weapons, anti-tank rocket launchers, and mortars. These arms were used by Hezbollah and Hamas, acquired from manufacturers like Iran, Russia, and China. Among the rare finds is a Nazi-era MG-34 machine gun.
Hezbollah and Hamas Weaponry
Since October 7, 2023, after Hamas initiated attacks on southern Israel, the IDF has worked to seize weapons from Hezbollah and Hamas. These groups operate under Iran’s “axis of resistance” and have a history of aggression against Israeli civilians and the IDF. Over 300 American lives have been lost to these groups.
Hezbollah engaged weapons not only in Israel but also harmed Lebanese civilians. During the height of conflict, the IDF faced a multi-front war against Iran’s proxies, including weaponry from Germany’s World War II era.
Seized Military Equipment
Lt. Col. (res.) Idan Sharon-Kettler highlighted the challenge of identifying weapons like the German MG-34, which bears a swastika emblem. The weapon retains its German roots, serving as a morale tool for Hezbollah operators. Another Nazi-era weapon, the MP 44, was confiscated.
Both Hamas and Hezbollah employed vehicles for offensive operations. So-called dual-use technology allowed them to convert civilian vehicles into weaponry. Captured motorcycles from Egyptian Halawa Motors were used in hostage-taking on October 7.
Technological Warfare
The IDF seized innovations like all-terrain vehicles (ATVs) that Hezbollah adapted to launch rockets. These vehicles provided strategic control over landscapes. Iranian-produced mortars and drones were also captured, illustrating Iran’s deep involvement in arming these groups.
Hezbollah embeds its operatives in civilian infrastructure, posing complex challenges for Israeli military efforts. Weapons confiscated include AK-47 rifles, Russian AK-103 and AK-104 rifles, and Turkish hunting rifles used in sniper operations.
Ceasefire and Disarmament Efforts
Efforts to control Hezbollah include a ceasefire agreement in November 2024, aiming for peace and stability. The U.S. and Lebanon are engaged in talks seeking the disarmament of Hezbollah and IDF withdrawal from southern Lebanon. These discussions continue amidst challenges posed by political stresses and resistance from Hezbollah. The outcome remains closely monitored as diplomatic talks proceed.
