IndyCar newcomer Caio Collet experienced a frightening incident at the Indianapolis 500 on Sunday afternoon. The incident occurred as Felix Rosenqvist and Pato O’Ward battled for the lead.
Collet’s car lost control in Turn 2 at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. He overcorrected slightly, causing his vehicle to crash into the wall. The impact ignited his right rear tire as he skidded down the track and onto the grass.
Emergency crews quickly responded. They extinguished the fire and assisted Collet out of his car. Remarkably, he was able to walk away from the crash.
Race officials issued a red flag, pausing the race. This allowed drivers to regroup before the final laps.
Unfortunately for Collet, he did not complete the race. This will affect his position on the leaderboard. It was his first appearance in the Indy 500 with A.J. Foyt Racing. He moved up to the NTT IndyCar Series after coming second in the Indy NXT Series last year, where he secured three wins in 2025.
Collet began the race with 70 points, placing him 21st in the IndyCar standings. He has not yet secured a top 10 finish in his debut season.
The 2026 Indy 500 itself was gripping, featuring over 50 lead changes. Felix Rosenqvist clinched victory in a dramatic final lap.
