Joseph Sawyer Triumphs at GCW Homecoming

In Atlantic City, New Jersey, Joseph Sawyer made a remarkable return to the wrestling scene on Saturday night. The former WWE star, previously known as Joe Gacy, emerged victorious in a gripping match at Game Changer Wrestling’s (GCW) Homecoming Night 1. The event took place at the Showboat Resort Atlantic City, where Sawyer captured the GCW World Championship by defeating Atticus Cogar.

Sawyer’s return to GCW marked his first match since 2020, and it coincided with a night dedicated to honoring the late Bray Wyatt. This homage was evident in Cogar’s entrance music, jacket, and mask, all paying tribute to the late WWE star. In a fierce contest with Cogar, Sawyer managed to seize victory, executing a finishing move known as the Sister Abigail DDT, much to the delight of an enthusiastic crowd.

The intense match against Cogar was not the only highlight of the event. The night featured an array of violent wrestling maneuvers and objects, including light tubes, chains, scaffolding, chairs, and a barbed wire table, adding to the dramatic spectacle. Another notable match was Otis Cogar retaining the GCW Ultraviolent Championship against Anakin Murphy, displaying fierce competition with a chair shot ending.

Additionally, Vipress triumphed over Christian Napier in their Chola Chain Match. Connected by a chain, the match turned bloody when Vipress capitalized by smashing light tubes over Napier’s head and securing victory by forcing Napier to tap out.

In a six-man deathmatch, Nick Gage, Nino Extremo, and Sicko The Clown overcame Conor Claxton, Dr. Redacted, and Jimmy Lloyd. The match reached a thrilling climax when Sicko The Clown executed a Spanish fly on Claxton through light tubes, resulting in Claxton being sent to the hospital.

The night also saw KJ Orso and Sam Stackhouse win the GCW Tag Team Championship over Alec Price and Jordan Oliver, adding another highlight to an action-packed night. Joey Janela managed to avoid retirement by defeating Marko Stunt with assistance from Ryan O’Neill. Bear Bronson and Gabby Forza achieved victory over Charles Mason and Slade.
