A tragic incident in Missouri has turned into a homicide investigation following the death of Destiny Dunn. Nicholas Ayres, 35, faces charges of second-degree felony murder and first-degree domestic assault in connection with her death. Police records provide a detailed account of the events leading up to the fatal incident.
Initial 911 Call
On August 12, at approximately 3:22 p.m., Nicholas Ayres contacted 911, reporting that his girlfriend, Destiny Dunn, was unresponsive but might have a heartbeat. He described her as appearing “red and blue,” according to a report reviewed by Fox News Digital.
Ayres informed the dispatcher about an argument in the shower. He claimed Dunn fell after he stepped out. However, under further questioning, Ayres admitted they had been fighting, noting that she was bruised. He allegedly insisted that he did not beat her up.
Police Arrive on Scene
Officers arrived shortly after the call, finding Dunn deceased. Reports indicate she had extensive bruising, including severe marks on her neck and face, with swollen and discolored eyelids. Neighbors confirmed hearing noises indicative of an altercation hours earlier.
Evidence from Cellphone
Post-arrest, Ayres participated in a post-Miranda interview where he admitted to physical disputes with Dunn on both August 11 and 12 but termed them accidental. Investigators then examined Ayres’ cellphone, revealing disturbing footage leading up to Dunn’s death.
“I have to because I’m not going down for manslaughter,” Ayres allegedly stated in a video recorded shortly before the second 911 call.
A video from August 10 showed Dunn without visible bruising, yet a subsequent recording allegedly documented Ayres assaulting her for more than a minute. Additional footage captured on August 12 depicted Dunn in a bathtub, barely moving, and led police to suspect foul play.
Investigation Unfolds
The case took a significant turn based on police findings, which identified defensive wounds on Ayres. Ultimately, investigators concluded Dunn’s death was a homicide. Ayres is currently detained without bond, with a court appearance scheduled for September 2.
Remembering Destiny Dunn
Destiny Dunn’s family recalls her as a loving and nurturing individual. Her sister, Marinah Hollon, described her as having a “beautiful soul” and emphasized the profound impact of her loss on her children. Donations to a GoFundMe in her memory reflect her family’s grief and desire to honor her legacy.
The Columbia Police Department continues its investigation to ensure justice for Dunn.
