Andrean High School’s Aleece Ehler had a remarkable freshman season as an outside hitter. Coach Grant Bell describes her experience as a ‘trial by fire’. Ehler was quickly immersed in the competitive world of high school volleyball, which helped her grow resilient. Bell now seeks more leadership from Ehler, hoping she becomes more vocal on the court.
Last season, Ehler recorded 298 digs, 196 kills, and 57 aces, earning her All-Northwest Crossroads Conference and all-district honors. With four key players graduating, Ehler’s role will increase as the team looks to her for leadership and performance.
Ehler herself sets high standards and emphasizes growth without losing the joy of the game. ‘I focus on improving my mentality every year,’ she said. ‘Hard work, positivity, and controlling my mindset are my priorities.’
Her developmental mindset fits well with Andrean’s fast-paced program. Ehler, who began playing volleyball at age 9, was inspired by her cousins who were passionate about the sport. Molly and Trevor Prisby, both former players at Andrean, significantly influenced her journey. Trevor Prisby achieved notable success, and Ehler is following a similar path.
Coach Bell believes Ehler has the potential to become a collegiate athlete. He emphasizes physical improvement, noting that speed, strength, and jumping are areas Ehler should focus on to reach the next level.
Ehler is valued not only for her athleticism but also for her intelligence on the court. Teammate Maya Mastalski trusts Ehler’s decision-making skills, an asset critical as Andrean faces competition in their conference.
Ehler remains focused on enjoying volleyball, whether in high school, college, or beyond. ‘I want to finish with pride and love for the sport,’ she concluded, underscoring her commitment to personal and team success.
