Patricia Heaton, known for her role in “Everybody Loves Raymond,” recently opened up about her decision to stop drinking a decade ago. In an interview with Woman’s World, Heaton recounted how the onset of the Coronavirus pandemic provided a reflective moment as her children had left home, leaving her unsure of how to occupy her time.
“Before the pandemic, my children had moved out, and I wasn’t working. The constants in my life, my family and my career, were no longer there,” Heaton explained. “I found myself wondering, ‘What should I do today?'”

Heaton noticed that her drinking habits were escalating over time. “A glass of wine while cooking turned into having wine with dinner, while cleaning up, and then while watching shows like ‘Wheel of Fortune’ and ‘Jeopardy!’. One night, I realized I nearly finished an entire bottle on my own,” she shared.
“God, I think you want me to stop drinking. I would be willing to stop, but you have to make it happen because I can’t. I’m willing, but I’m unable.” — Patricia Heaton
Following this realization, Heaton began to see alcohol differently and looked towards her faith for guidance. She recalled a specific event with her sons and their friends where she struggled to pronounce a word correctly, which was a pivotal moment for her. Her youngest son’s comment highlighted her condition and urged her to take action.
The morning after that incident, Heaton acknowledged the need for change. “The next morning I said, ‘Okay, God. Message received.’ That experience marked the start of my journey, which was eight years ago,” she said.

As a mother of four sons – Samuel, John, Joseph, and Daniel – Heaton shares these children with her husband, David Hunt, a British actor and director. The couple married in 1990.
