Preliminary autopsy results for actress Hayden Panettiere revealed no signs of trauma. She was found dead at the age of 36 in South Carolina. Her complicated relationship with her ex-boyfriend Brian Hickerson gained attention on August 16 when he was present at her South Carolina apartment when she was discovered unresponsive.
Hickerson, who had a tumultuous on-again, off-again relationship with Panettiere, was among those who called 911. His presence marked the end of a relationship that included domestic violence charges and his eventual conviction. Hickerson and his brother discovered Panettiere unresponsive and called for help, according to the police report.
The police noted Zach, Hickerson’s brother, appeared very emotional as paramedics attempted to revive her. Hickerson reportedly showed emotion only after Panettiere was officially declared deceased.
A bag containing medication Panettiere had allegedly been taking was handed over to officers by Hickerson. Panettiere and Hickerson first met in 2018, following her split from Wladimir Klitschko. Hickerson, originally from South Carolina, transitioned from real estate to pursuing acting, with a minor role in the 2017 thriller “M.F.A.”
They traveled from Los Angeles to the Greenville apartment complex on August 15, the day before Panettiere’s death. Despite breaking up in 2022, the couple had rekindled their romance; however, the status of their relationship at her time of death remains unclear.
The relationship had been troubled by legal issues. In 2019, Hickerson faced domestic violence charges involving Panettiere. In 2020, he was arrested on eight felony charges, among them assault with a deadly weapon and corporal injury on a cohabitant. In 2021, he pleaded no contest to two felony charges related to domestic violence against Panettiere.
Panettiere spoke publicly about the abuse, hoping her story would empower others in similar situations. “I am coming forward with the truth about what happened to me with the hope that my story will empower others in abusive relationships to get the help they need and deserve,” she shared in a public statement.
Days before her death, Hickerson appeared in Los Angeles court attempting to reduce his charges. Despite his efforts, the prosecution successfully objected to the defense’s motion.
