Rep. Jared Huffman of California, identifying as a Humanist, claims in a recent book that Christian nationalism represents the most perilous political force in the United States. The publication comes at a time when secularism appears to be gaining traction.
Huffman made headlines in 2017 when he publicly declared himself a ‘nonbeliever.’ At that time, he was only the second member of Congress in modern history to adopt such a stance. Despite this rarity in political circles, surveys showed that around 25% of Americans considered themselves nonreligious.
