Boston, Denver, and Philadelphia have been announced as the three finalists to host the 2028 Democratic National Convention. This information was shared by Democratic National Committee Chair Ken Martin.
The selection now progresses to the Democratic National Convention Committee. An official from the DNC stated that this process will take several months. Earlier this year, Atlanta and Chicago were considered, but did not make it to the final round. The Associated Press initially reported the finalists.
The 2028 Democratic National Convention will be an essential event for the Democrats as it focuses on the party’s future nominee and their goal of reclaiming the White House, said Martin in a statement. Boston, Denver, and Philadelphia have all submitted impressive bids to host the convention, and collaboration will continue until the DNC finalizes its decision in the coming months.
The DNC began requesting proposals from interested cities in September 2025 and conducted site visits in April and May.
Atlanta Mayor Andre Dickens expressed dissatisfaction in a letter obtained by CBS News Atlanta. He criticized the DNC for not considering Atlanta on the shortlist, implying the decision overlooked Georgia’s importance to the Democratic Party.
The convention is slated for August 7 to 10, 2028. Previously, the 2024 convention took place in Chicago, while Philadelphia last hosted in 2016 when Hillary Clinton was named the nominee. Boston was the venue in 2004, marking the year when Barack Obama delivered his keynote address. Denver hosted the convention in 2008, where Obama accepted the nomination.
