The Detroit Lions entered the 2025 season with high hopes of competing for a Super Bowl title. Despite these ambitions, the team ended the regular season with a 9-8 record and narrowly missed making the playoffs. The previous season’s NFC North champions found their title aspirations unmet.
Lions head coach Dan Campbell remains optimistic about the team’s future. He asserts that the window for achieving Super Bowl success is still open given the current roster’s structure. In an interview with Eric Woodyard of ESPN, Campbell expressed confidence, stating, “Our window is not closed. That was the whole reason why we did this. We fell short last year. But needed to get in the playoffs, and now it’s about the matchups, where you’re playing and who you’re playing.”
Campbell emphasized the importance of consistent team performance over focusing on individual players. He said, “We want to be able to do that every year. Sometimes, you want to go all-in for one player. How do you know that one player doesn’t get hurt? Or how do you know the three players behind him don’t get hurt, and now you’ve got no depth? Let’s just get a unit together that we feel like can compete every year. Then it’s about making those plays and finding a way to win the game in that moment.”
The Lions will kick off their 2026 regular season with a Week 1 game against the New Orleans Saints on September 13.
