Taylor Sheridan’s Texas Ranch Purchase and Paramount Deal

Taylor Sheridan, a well-known writer and director, once considered retiring but his plans changed with the purchase of a second ranch in Texas. Speaking on the “Rodeo Time” podcast, Sheridan, 56, shared that buying the Four Sixes Ranch for $330 million halted his retirement plans and led him to make an exclusivity deal with Paramount.

“I was prepared to retire after ‘Yellowstone,’ having purchased a ranch in Weatherford using cash, with no debts,” Sheridan explained. “My plan was simple: relax, show horses, and manage a hobby herd.” However, acquiring the Four Sixes Ranch meant Sheridan couldn’t quit working anytime soon.

The writer ensured the ranch would be efficiently managed before committing. He confirmed the general manager would remain for daily operations and his son would eventually take responsibility.

The ranch, crucial to several episodes of ‘Yellowstone’ Season 4, was brought to Sheridan’s attention after its owner, Anne Marion, passed away, leaving it out of her daughter’s inheritance.

Marion wanted the ranch preserved, leading to Sheridan’s involvement.

Faced with a $330 million price tag, Sheridan humorously admitted, “Well, boys, I’m about 300 million short.” Consequently, he agreed to an exclusive deal with Paramount, who had pursued him for years.

“Paramount feared I might leave, prompting them to offer an overall deal,” Sheridan remarked. “It was time to negotiate a number.” With a group of investors, Sheridan finalized the ranch’s purchase on January 21, 2022.

Since the Paramount deal, Sheridan has created several series, including “Mayor of Kingstown,” “1883,” “1923,” “Lioness,” “Landman,” “Tulsa King,” and “The Madison.”

“Lioness” is now airing its third season. Michael Kelly, a cast member, commended Sheridan’s work to ScreenRant, saying, “I’ll do anything he asks. His storytelling and intelligence are unmatched.”
