Democratic Strategist Criticizes Ossoff’s Remarks on Trump and Harp
A prominent Democratic strategist from the Obama administration criticized Sen. Jon Ossoff’s recent comments about President Donald Trump as unnecessary. Ossoff, a Georgia Democrat, has raised his profile during his re-election campaign, setting the stage for possible candidacy in the 2028 presidential race. His comments on Trump went viral after a campaign event, where he criticized Trump for military actions in Iran and his involvement with a presidential aide.
Ossoff targeted Trump over the prolonged deployment of the USS Abraham Lincoln in the Middle East and shifted focus to the president’s executive assistant, Natalie Harp. He stated, “While the sailors on the Lincoln fight his war, while he drains our munitions and oil reserves, the president sleeps through his meetings. He golfs and trades stocks. He wants to build his ballroom and travel with Natalie on their seemingly defenseless flying palace gifted by the Emir of Qatar.”
The remarks drew backlash from Trump and his allies, as well as from Ossoff’s opponent, Rep. Mike Collins. Additionally, David Axelrod, a significant figure in the Democratic Party and key advisor to former President Obama, joined the criticism. Axelrod noted that while Ossoff’s critique was generally sharp, mentioning Harp was inappropriate.
On social media, Axelrod commented, “The paragraph from his weekend speech that has gotten so much attention was a brutal takedown. But two words in it, ‘with Natalie,’ seemed gratuitous and unnecessary.” He suggested that the campaign may have increased the clip’s virality to gain support among the base and criticized this strategy for detracting from the core message.
Collins echoed Axelrod’s sentiment, denouncing Ossoff’s attack on Harp as improper and politically motivated. “It’s disgusting that he would attack a young female staffer just to score cheap political points with his radical activist base,” Collins stated.
Conversely, other Democratic voices disagreed with Axelrod. Joanne Carducci, a prominent social media figure known as Jojofromjerz, defended Ossoff’s comments, claiming they reflect the modern political landscape. She argued, “The political world has changed since you were a player in it, and if we continue to operate under the antiquated rules of the past, we’ll keep losing.”
For his part, Ossoff seemed unfazed by the controversy, even as Trump labeled him a “Pee-wee Herman look-alike.” Ossoff remained firm, stating that these staff members, who are public officials, should be scrutinized. During an MSNOW appearance, he remarked, “It’s been amazing to watch this White House melt down over this all week.”
