Stephen Colbert recently appeared at The Hollywood Reporter’s The Most Powerful People in New York Media event. Since his departure from The Late Show, Colbert entertained viewers with a unique broadcast on a local cable access show in Monroe, Michigan.
The parody program, titled “Only In Monroe,” featured Colbert taking a playful jab at the lack of TV presence with a joke about his short hiatus. Rockstar Jack White joined Colbert, contributing to the satirical tone.
After it debuted, this comedic piece quickly spread online. Many shared it across YouTube and social media platforms. Initially, CBS issued copyright notices to restrict the program’s redistribution. However, after review, CBS relaxed these efforts. They noted that the episode was a CBS studios production and was intended for limited distribution on select YouTube channels.
Colbert’s departure occurred in July 2025 as CBS aimed to reduce costs amidst Paramount Global’s merger with Skydance Media. During his final Late Show episode, prominent figures like Bruce Springsteen and Paul McCartney joined him.
Despite the shift from a major network show, Colbert’s “Monroe” appearance provided a humorous juxtaposition. Viewers enjoyed segments on local interest topics, contributing to the fun, low-key atmosphere. Amid this, Colbert made a call to Byron Allen of “Comics Unleashed,” the program now occupying Colbert’s previous slot.
Allen praised Colbert, calling him “an American treasure.” While he respected Colbert’s style, Allen mentioned that his own show would focus less on political satire.
