An Ohio wedding turned chaotic as a longstanding feud between two families erupted in violence. The altercation resulted in injuries, a police response from multiple departments, and the arrest of three men. The incident took place on August 21 at La Centre Banquet Facility in Westlake.
Ali Wahdan, 47, Raed Mahmoud Sulaiman, 46, and Abdallah Wahdan, 48, were arrested following the brawl. Sulaiman, a resident of Dearborn Heights, Michigan, faced charges of assault, inducing panic, and tampering with evidence. He allegedly threatened guests with a butter knife and discarded it when police arrived. Ali Wahdan violated a temporary protection order, while Abdallah Wahdan of Westlake was charged with aggravated menacing for threatening other guests.
Surveillance footage captured the turmoil outside the banquet facility where tensions escalated during the wedding celebration.
The situation began inside the hall and spilled into the parking lot. Fox News Digital acquired 911 calls, body camera footage, and additional videos showing the events unfold. The general manager of the banquet hall reported the incident to a 911 operator, describing a chaotic scene with multiple people fighting inside and outside.
One caller highlighted their distress as background noise captured shouting. Another emphasized their need for police assistance, claiming they were attacked. Body camera footage shows police conversing with a wedding guest following the brawl.
As officers arrived, dashcam videos depicted a crowded parking lot filled with cars and individuals dressed for the wedding. With the situation escalating, Westlake police sought assistance from neighboring departments. Dashcam footage shows police managing the crowd outside the venue.
Officers attempted to separate groups as guests exited the building. A wedding guest approached an officer to report an attack while dancing. Cellphone footage from inside the ballroom provided a glimpse of the chaos, capturing a man—identified as Sulaiman—wielding a butter knife as tensions rose.
Nearby guests knocked over chairs and retreated from the confrontation. Paramedics attended to injured guests while officers worked to restore control over the scene.
Fox News reported that officers were initially unaware if any weapons were involved. However, they attributed the brawl to existing animosity between the two families, dismissing alcohol as a contributing factor.
Ali Wahdan’s temporary protection order demanded he leave if encountering members of a particular family. However, police claimed he remained at the venue, igniting the confrontation.
Captain Jerry Vogel explained the legal obligation to leave upon encountering specific individuals.
Despite the conflict, the wedding continued once officers calmed the situation. The charges against the three men involved were filed in Rocky River Municipal Court.
