Jason Dohring Focuses on Farming Over Acting
Jason Dohring, known for his role in “Veronica Mars,” has temporarily left acting to pursue gardening and farming. He appeared on the “Don’t Do Nothing” podcast and explained his journey into agriculture.
Transition to Farming
About four years ago, Dohring found a passion for growing food. He informed his agents of his decision to “go farm for a minute.” He has since developed three farms, emphasizing the importance of healthy food as he believes some health issues arise from poor dietary choices.
Dohring began his farming journey in Los Angeles before setting up a 14-acre farm in West Virginia. At this farm, he planted around 4,000 trees, including apple, cherry, pear, peach, and nectarine trees, with a large contribution from his own efforts.
New Life in Florida
Currently, Dohring resides on an 11-acre farm in Florida with his wife Lauren Kutner and their four children. He chose Florida for its favorable farming conditions, like abundant rain and resources, which contrast with the challenges faced farming in California.
L.A.’s unpredictable climate led to water shortages, prompting the move. “Infinite rain” and “infinite manure,” as he describes, are key advantages of farming in Florida.
Regenerative Farming Practices
Dohring employs regenerative farming methods on his Florida farm, avoiding chemicals to improve crop quality. During his efforts, he encountered an experienced farmer who praised his work, saying he had never seen anything similar.
Background and Future
Dohring gained fame as Logan Echolls on “Veronica Mars.” He also worked on “Moonlight,” “The Originals,” and the “Veronica Mars” movie. His latest acting project was on “SEAL Team” in 2021.
Despite his current focus on farming, Dohring has not completely closed the door on acting. He hinted at future projects and completed a short film for a friend.
Personal Life
Dohring and Lauren Kutner married in 2004. The couple met in high school, where their friendship laid the foundation for their marriage. They have four children: son Owen, and daughters Lily, Ainsley Mae, and Isla Avery.
