The family of Jenny Lupton, a flight attendant from Moore, Oklahoma, has released details regarding her last text messages before she was found dead during a layover in Hawaii. Lupton, aged 50, was discovered dead on August 20 following an apparent fall from a hotel balcony in Waikiki. Her family has demanded a comprehensive investigation, expressing doubts about the possibility of suicide. Authorities in Honolulu have confirmed that an active investigation is underway.
Events Leading to the Tragedy
Hannah Lupton, Jenny’s niece, described how her aunt seemed to be relishing her time in Hawaii. Jenny had gone out dancing, received a tattoo, and was arranging plans with fellow flight attendants in the hours preceding her death. Reports indicate she was in high spirits, as evidenced by her text asking a colleague, ‘What are we doing tomorrow?’ which was her final message. This text followed a message sent to her family around 11:40 p.m. on August 19. Emergency responders arrived at the Hilton Hawaiian Village near 7:15 a.m. on August 20, where Jenny was pronounced dead.
Ongoing Investigation
The Honolulu Police Department issued a statement on August 24, confirming that the investigation into Jenny Lupton’s death is ongoing, with no conclusions drawn about the manner of her passing. The medical examiner has yet to determine the cause of death. Police officials emphasized that the investigation would be thorough, involving numerous interviews, surveillance video reviews, and evidence examination. To maintain the integrity of the investigation, certain information will be withheld from the public.
“This is a thorough investigation that will take time,” stated the police department. “Detectives are conducting numerous interviews, reviewing and recovering surveillance video, and examining evidence as part of the investigative process.”
Authorities have urged the public to rely on information from official sources to prevent misinformation. In a conversation with SFGate, Hannah Lupton stated that the family acknowledges her aunt fell from a balcony, but the circumstances remain unclear, with suspicions of foul play or a tragic accident.
