Texas Chiropractor Among Missing After Grand Canyon Flood
A Texas chiropractor and his hiking group are reported missing after a flash flood hit a remote area of the Grand Canyon. Dr. John Giusti, from Granbury, Texas, and his group were camping in Bright Angel Canyon and the Phantom Ranch area when the floodwaters surged on August 29.
John’s spouse shared the news through Whipple City Family Chiropractic, urging prayers for Giusti’s safety. National Park Service teams are conducting ground and aerial searches in the area. The agency has not confirmed the identities of those missing but seeks information from people who were in the Bright Angel Creek corridor at the time.
Giusti, a chiropractor for 19 years, moved to Granbury in 2020 after practicing in New York for eight years. He and his wife, Janet, have three daughters. Outside of his career, Giusti enjoys outdoor activities such as hiking and fishing.
The National Park Service reported evacuating 62 individuals from the area without injuries. Flood damage included destruction of footbridges and closure of several trails and facilities, complicating hiker access.
Arizona Governor Katie Hobbs expressed her concern for those affected, highlighting collaboration between the state’s emergency management division, the National Park Service, and local agencies in recovery efforts.
Anyone with information regarding individuals in the affected area is encouraged to contact the National Park Service Investigative Services Branch. The flash flood event began on August 29 at approximately 2:30 p.m.
