A violent incident occurred in Times Square on Monday, involving a woman wielding a knife. Police reported that she stabbed two individuals before confronting officers with two knives.
The event unfolded around 4:30 p.m. near the intersection of West 43rd Street and Seventh Avenue. Authorities identified the woman as emotionally disturbed. She first attacked a man and a woman, according to Fox 5 New York.
After the initial assault, the woman moved north towards an NYPD substation. Police encountered her there, holding two knives. Officers attempted to subdue her with a Taser, but she continued to approach them. Consequently, the officers opened fire, hitting the suspect.
All three individuals—the two stabbing victims and the female suspect—were hospitalized. Details regarding their conditions were not immediately available.
Authorities advised the public to avoid the area of West 43rd Street and Seventh Avenue. They cautioned about potential delays due to ongoing investigations.
Officials stated that the situation does not seem to be linked to terrorism. It remained unclear if any NYPD officers sustained injuries during the altercation.
