Hasan Piker Controversy: Democrats Respond to Streamer’s Remarks
Michigan Democrat Abdul El-Sayed is distancing himself from Hasan Piker, a left-wing streamer, following intense backlash over Piker’s controversial comments. Political commentator Stephanie Hamill has joined the discussion on the political fallout, highlighting strong condemnation from Georgia Sen. Jon Ossoff. This controversy exposes growing tensions within the Democratic Party ahead of the 2026 midterm elections.
The Democratic Socialists of America (DSA) have defended Piker, criticizing both Democrats and Republicans for attacking him. On Sunday, DSA’s official account on X questioned the focus on Piker instead of addressing critical issues like healthcare. They also referred to Piker as ‘our Twitch streamer.’
A former Democratic operative warned that Piker is becoming a significant figure in the progressive movement. His comments have drawn calls from moderate Democrats and pro-Israel factions within the party to distance themselves from the streamer. The DSA has publicly backed Piker, yet other Democrats have criticized his rhetoric.
Sen. Jon Ossoff, known for his vocal critiques of former President Donald Trump, has publicly rejected Piker’s reckless rhetoric, particularly concerning comments on American Jews. Ossoff clarified that policy advocacy should not incite violence against any community. He condemned Piker’s statement from an August Twitch stream about potential actions against American Jews.
Ossoff is not alone in his denunciation. Rep. Jared Moskowitz, a Jewish Democrat from Florida, also criticized Piker, stating he doesn’t see room for both himself and Piker in the party. Moskowitz expressed doubts about coexisting with Piker and the DSA.
Moskowitz is among four Democrats proposing an amendment to a Republican resolution condemning socialism. This GOP resolution includes a provision supporting the Trump-backed SAVE America Act. The Democrats’ amendment aimed to keep the condemnation of socialism while removing election-related provisions, although the amendment did not get a vote.
The unresolved amendment condemned socialism as incompatible with American values, listing failures of communist regimes such as in Mao’s China and the Soviet Union. It emphasized that socialist ideology often leads to totalitarian rule and repressive dictatorships.
Fox News Digital has reached out to the DSA, Piker, Ossoff, Moskowitz, and other involved parties for further comments regarding the situation.
