Dabo Swinney expressed strong views about the current state of college football during a recent press conference. The Clemson Tigers’ head coach criticized programs like LSU for recruiting former NFL players as the 2026 season approaches.
In his comments, Swinney did not hide his disapproval, specifically targeting Lane Kiffin, whose team Clemson will play this weekend. Swinney described the situation as ’embarrassing’ and pointed out that while the kids should not be blamed, the people exploiting the system are at fault.
“It’s kind of embarrassing,” Swinney said. “Honestly, it’s embarrassing that’s where we are. I don’t blame the kids, but people trying to take advantage of the system. It’s embarrassing, but we’ve been there for a while.”
Swinney further remarked, ‘No pun intended but we’re just going to stay in our lane.’
Paul Finebaum, an ESPN college football analyst known for seldom agreeing with Swinney, supported his opinion in this case. Finebaum mentioned that this is the first time in ten years he agreed with Swinney, emphasizing that almost everyone in college football shares these views unless they reside in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
“I don’t think I’ve agreed with Dabo Swinney in ten years on anything. He’s 100% right, and almost everyone in college football agrees with him that does not live in Baton Rouge, Louisiana,” Finebaum said on the show ‘Get Up.’
Clemson is set to play against LSU at 7:30 p.m. ET on Saturday.
