Police-Involved Shooting in Minneapolis Leaves Several Injured

A police-involved shooting in downtown Minneapolis resulted in multiple injuries, with two police officers among those affected, authorities informed Newsweek on Wednesday. The Minneapolis Police Department stated that officers were responding to an incident on Thursday afternoon near 15 E. Grant St. when the shooting took place. The situation remained active, according to reports.
KSTP-TV from St. Paul, referencing law enforcement and City Hall sources, indicated that several civilians lost their lives after at least six individuals, including two Minneapolis police officers, were shot. As per their report, one officer was injured in the stomach and another in the leg. By 5:39 p.m. local time, one of the harmed officers was undergoing surgery, while the other sustained injuries not deemed life-threatening. Officials had not yet publicly confirmed the fatalities or the state of all victims by 6 p.m. local time.
A video circulating on social media seemed to reveal heavily armed police aiming rifles towards an apartment tower close to the Minneapolis Convention Center. Authorities cautioned residents to avoid the nearby Loring Park neighborhood while the law enforcement response unfolded in one of the city’s most populated areas.
Federal and Minnesota Officials Respond to Minneapolis Shooting
FBI Director Kash Patel posted a message on X, stating, “FBI is aware of the shooting in Minneapolis involving law enforcement and our personnel are responding. We will offer any and all resources necessary to assist local authorities.”
The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) in St. Paul also posted on X, “ATF special agents are responding to what is being reported as an active shooter situation near East Grant St. and South Marquette in downtown Minneapolis.”
Governor Tim Walz commented on X, “My public safety team is responding to a shooting that took place downtown Minneapolis this afternoon. State officials are on the ground to support local law enforcement and we will share more information as it becomes available.” He added in another post, “Grateful to law enforcement actively working to ensure the safety of our neighbors in Downtown Minneapolis this afternoon. Minnesota is praying for our first responders.”
Minnesota House Speaker Lisa Demuth also acknowledged the incident on X, “I am aware of reports regarding a shooting in downtown Minneapolis. I am praying for the victims of this heinous crime, and I’m incredibly thankful for the massive response of our brave law enforcement officers.”
