Shooting in Downtown Minneapolis Leaves One Dead and Injures Several
A shooting in downtown Minneapolis on Wednesday resulted in the death of one person and injuries to multiple others, including two officers. Officials have reported the incident, and the Hennepin County Medical Center confirmed having seven patients, one deceased.
The city of Minneapolis posted about the shooting around 5:10 p.m. local time on social media, informing the public about the police response. According to the post, the Minneapolis Police Department was addressing a shooting near 15 E Grant St. that involved several victims.
At present, the conditions of the injured remain unclear. Aerial footage from NBC affiliate KARE showed an extensive police presence on the scene, featuring what looked like armored vehicles and SWAT officers.
A witness mentioned to KARE that she was descending to the lobby of a building when she heard gunfire. “I saw someone down and left immediately because I didn’t want to be involved,” she said. After exiting, she heard approximately 25 to 30 gunshots.
Further video footage showed police vehicles with sirens activated at the scene. Authorities advised residents to avoid a significant area around Loring Park due to the ongoing situation.
Minnesota Governor Tim Walz stated his awareness of the incident and expressed gratitude toward responding officers. His public safety team is also en route to the area. “Grateful to law enforcement actively working to ensure the safety of our neighbors in Downtown Minneapolis this afternoon,” Walz posted on X.
The federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, based in St. Paul, announced its involvement at the scene. Additionally, FBI Director Kash Patel confirmed his agency’s awareness and readiness to offer resources to support local authorities.
