The owner of a prominent pro-America and Trump-themed residence in southern California has died following an alleged assault by a stranger. Kerry Sheron, aged 69 and a U.S. Army veteran, passed away after being hospitalized in critical condition. Sheron was known for his Escondido home, decorated with American flags and Trump memorabilia, which had a history of attracting vandalism and complaints.
Authorities reported the attack happened outside his property. The accused, Thomas Caleb Butler, 32, was arrested and charged with attempted murder. The San Diego County District Attorney’s Office is evaluating whether to amend charges. Butler, a Navy veteran with PTSD, reportedly suffers from paranoia. A friend described him as someone who plays with Legos and Star Wars toys despite his declining mental state.
Escondido police responded to an assault call at East Mission Avenue and Buchanan Street, near Sheron’s home, finding Sheron and an intervening bystander injured. The location, known popularly as Escondido’s “Trump House,” was marked by its conspicuous pro-Trump displays.
Maria Garcia, Sheron’s wife, voiced her belief that the attack was politically driven, noting past incidents targeting the residence’s visible symbols. Police continue to investigate, while Garcia expressed her distress over the violence and its roots in intolerance.
