A horrific discovery was made in a residential building outside Mexico City, involving the tragic deaths of a musician, his pregnant wife, their 3-year-old daughter, and the family’s nanny. As reported by the State of Mexico Prosecutor’s Office, the victims were found alongside an unharmed 6-year-old boy in the Zona Esmeralda area of Atizapán de Zaragoza.
The victims identified by initials were a 38-year-old male music producer and composer named Jonathan Meléndez, his 35-year-old pregnant wife, their young daughter, and a 21-year-old nanny. Authorities conveyed this information in a statement shared publicly.
The shocking incident drew connections to the Mexican band Camilo Séptimo, with Jonathan Meléndez formerly serving as their keyboardist. His tragic passing was confirmed by the band in a heartfelt Instagram message. “We will always remember Honas with immense love and gratitude,” they shared. “Today we honor and celebrate his life, his music, his light, and the time shared with those fortunate enough to know him and walk the path alongside him.”
Statements from the Prosecutor’s Office indicated that two of the victims were found bound. These victims, along with the 3-year-old girl, suffered gunshot wounds to the head, while another victim was shot in the back.
Authorities suspect the killings occurred on Tuesday, September 1, between 5:30 p.m. and 7:40 p.m. In response, two men, named Diego Sebastián “N” and Gerardo “N,” were arrested for their alleged involvement.
Although specific motives remain undisclosed, authorities described one suspect as an “associate” of the deceased musician. Allegedly, this relationship facilitated access to the residence.
Omar García Harfuch, Mexico’s secretary of security and citizen protection, affirmed that authorities moved swiftly. “Given the gravity of the crime, the institutions acted immediately and in a coordinated manner,” Harfuch stated. “The two suspects are now in custody and will be brought to justice.”
Efforts continue, with further investigations and cooperation between law enforcement to ensure justice is served.
