Violent Incident at Ohio Gubernatorial Campaign Stop
An attack occurred during a campaign event for Democratic gubernatorial candidate Amy Acton at the Canfield Fair on Sunday. A man armed with multiple weapons charged at Acton, resulting in injuries to several individuals. Mahoning County Democratic Party Chairman Chris Anderson confirmed the arrest of the suspect.
Acton was unharmed, but injuries were reported among those present. Details from law enforcement are pending. Wayne Penny Jr., another Democratic candidate, witnessed the confrontation. He described the suspect aggressively pushing through the crowd and knocking down an elderly man. Penny noted that brass knuckles and a gun fell from the suspect during his arrest.
“This kind of violence has no place in Ohio,” stated Addie Bullock, Acton’s communications director. She emphasized Acton’s commitment to counter hate and division.
On the opposing side, Republican candidate Vivek Ramaswamy condemned the violence. His communications director criticized the incident as unacceptable, stressing that candidates should meet voters without fear.
Governor Mike DeWine expressed gratitude for Acton’s safety and extended wishes for the recovery of the injured. He reiterated the unacceptability of violence at public events.
Authorities are expected to provide further information as investigations continue.
