Arrest Made in Fatal Shooting of Chicago Employee
An arrest has been made in connection with the shooting death of D’aJ Flowers, a Chicago city employee. D’aJ Flowers, 36, was found fatally shot on February 6 in the residence she shared with her boyfriend, Darreon Plummer, in the West Ridge community. An arrest warrant for first-degree murder was issued for Plummer on August 26.
Custody and Extradition
Darreon Plummer, 33, was taken into custody in Washington state, north of Seattle, according to Demone Flowers, the brother of the victim. The arrest was made public after Cook County Crime Stoppers offered a reward for information leading to the arrest. Plummer was booked by the Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office on September 1 and appeared in a Washington State court on September 2. He signed a waiver of extradition, though the timeline for his return to Chicago remains uncertain.
Victim’s Profile
D’aJ Flowers worked as a senior administrative assistant at Chicago’s Office of Emergency Management and Communications. She was known for her dedication and caring nature, as highlighted by her brother. Before joining OEMC, she held positions at the Chicago Department of Public Health. Her family remembers her as a loving person who aimed to assist others through her job.
Family Impact and Previous Tragedy
The family had already faced tragedy earlier in the year when their mother, Surbezz Clark, was killed in July during a shooting near a gas station in the Auburn Gresham community. That incident resulted in multiple casualties, but no arrests have been made. These events have brought the family closer, as stated by Demone Flowers, who cherishes memories of his sister and uses them as motivation.
