LSU head coach Lane Kiffin delivered a passionate halftime speech during a decisive 51-10 win against the Clemson Tigers. A leaked video of Kiffin’s speech appeared on social media while LSU led 31-3 at halftime. Kiffin was not visible on camera but his intense words suggested a need for continued effort.
“Alright, guys, we started here like seven or eight months ago,” Kiffin addressed his team. “We asked you to work hard repeatedly. Do you feel good about what happened?” he questioned before dismissing any notion of celebrations. “Ain’t no celebrations for that. They’re soft! We’re different, so you gotta show them again!” he emphasized.
Kiffin reminded his players that the opponent’s strategy was irrelevant, saying, “It doesn’t matter what plays they run…you send them a message about who is on their schedule!”
His insistence on proving their prowess continued with, “You take it out on them! The whole world hates you!”
LSU maintained their dominance in the second half, securing the win against Clemson. The timing of Kiffin’s speech coincided with controversy over LSU’s recruitment of players with NFL contracts. LSU aimed to enlist Dae’Quan Wright and Zxavian Harris, who previously played under Kiffin at Ole Miss. Both were signed by NFL teams but released during the preseason.
Neither Wright nor Harris were present in the game against Clemson. ESPN’s Pete Thamel reported on potential fines for LSU and Kiffin, and the SEC’s prohibition of such recruitment moves.
LSU is set to host Louisiana Tech on Saturday. Observers are eager to see how Kiffin will motivate his team if the lead is not assured.
