Kennedy Center Removes ‘Blue’ Sculpture
The recent removal of Joel Shapiro’s ‘Blue’ sculpture from the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts has drawn disappointment. According to the Style section on September 3, this decision follows a directive by Richard Grenell. President Donald Trump appointed Grenell to lead the center. He instructed the curator of visual arts and special programming to remove all outdoor artwork on the premises.
The ‘Blue’ sculpture, known for its inspiring presence, was a significant part of the center’s art collection. Its absence marks a change in the visual landscape of the Kennedy Center, which has been home to various artistic installations.
