Veteran tight end George Kittle overcame a significant injury setback to compete in the San Francisco 49ers’ first game of the season. Kittle tore his Achilles during a wild card victory against the Philadelphia Eagles on January 11.
Now, months later, Kittle is free of any injury designation as the 49ers prepare to face the Los Angeles Rams in Melbourne, Australia, for Week 1. Kittle had restricted participation during practice, but he’s been removed from the injury list. He and teammate Nick Bosa, who had a knee injury, are ready to play in the Thursday night opener.
Body feels really good. It’s bounced back really good. I’d say I’ve really taken a step back … towards playing. But besides that, don’t know what the workload is.
Kittle, now in his 10th season, built a career as a leading tight end for the 49ers. Last season, through eleven regular-season games, he secured 57 receptions, accumulating 628 yards and scoring seven touchdowns.
The game between the 49ers and Rams will start at 8:35 p.m. ET on Thursday night.
