The New England Patriots suffered a loss to the Seattle Seahawks on Wednesday, but the challenges mounted further on Thursday. An MRI confirmed that key wide receiver A.J. Brown sustained a high ankle sprain. Reports indicate he may miss three to six weeks of play.
Patriots Coach Mike Vrabel expressed uncertainty about Brown’s availability in the upcoming games. “I don’t know if he’ll be available going forward here for the next week, but we’ll see,” Vrabel stated. He added that the team would decide on a treatment plan once the report is fully reviewed.
A.J. Brown of the New England Patriots was injured while attempting a catch against the Seattle Seahawks. This occurred during the third quarter at Lumen Field in Seattle.
The injury happened as Seahawks cornerback Nehemiah Pritchett’s knee collided with Brown’s ankle, forcing it into the ground. Initially, Brown was listed as questionable but was later declared out for the remainder of the game. Before leaving, Brown managed three catches for 26 yards and drew a crucial defensive pass interference penalty, leading to the Patriots’ only touchdown.
The Patriots traded for Brown from the Philadelphia Eagles in hopes he would become a primary target for quarterback Drake Maye. Brown had been reliable during his four seasons with the Eagles, missing only six games.
In Brown’s absence, Maye will rely on other targets like Romeo Doubs, who recently signed a four-year deal worth $68 million, along with Mack Hollins, Demario Douglas, and Kyle Williams. Doubs had a notable drop on second-and-14 during the fourth quarter in the recent game, which could have resulted in a first down. Following the drop, Maye threw one of his three interceptions in the fourth quarter.
The Patriots, now holding a 0-1 record, aim to rebound in Week 2 against the Jacksonville Jaguars.
